How long have you been a nurse and when did you know this was the career path for you?
I have been a registered nurse for the past 11 years. Throughout my nursing career I’ve had the great opportunity to work in different fields here in the US and abroad. I became a nurse in response to nothing short but “a calling”. I wanted to do something that is challenging, interesting and makes a difference in people’s daily lives.
What specific lessons have you learned from being a nurse?
There are so many things that you can do in the profession – you don’t have to stick to one specialty. If there’s an area of interest that is not yet created, you can create it.
The Joys of Nursing
What’s your favorite part of being a nurse and what makes you smile at work?
As much as the situation surrounding healthcare in times of current pandemic is stressful, being able to still build a nurse-client rapport is the most rewarding thing for me.

Favorite ways to relax on your days off?
Go for a walk around the neighborhood, scenic driving and pamper myself for a relaxing massage.
Taking Time to Reflect
What life lessons or inspiration have you gathered from nursing?
My son wants to become a nurse like me and follow in my footsteps. He sees the commitment and satisfaction I feel everyday by helping people which inspired me to do better.
What is your most treasured memory as a nurse?
The most treasured memory/moments as a nurse is the personal connection that I am able to make with the patients. No matter how long it has been, a patient remembers their nurse. They may or may not remember the nurse’s name but they remember the kindness and compassion that you gave them.
What advice do you give to nurses starting out?
Form good habits and do the right thing, as you start working, don’t develop shortcuts to save on time. Everything you learned has a rationale and it is important to follow proper procedures.
Do your best and learn from your mistakes. Remember, every mistake you make helps you grow as a nurse and improve your skills for the future.
